SKETCH AEROBICS April 20th 2012.
These are some videos and images from the Sketch Aerobics we had on April 20th.
I hope to see you there next time.

The “Sketch Aerobics” uses music and the very basic elements of drawing to speed up the learning process in visual communication.
This is a technique that promotes learning by doing. The fun aspect of the sketch aerobics eliminates the frustration that commonly used techniques provoke in students and young designers when learning how to draw.

COLOR PAPER EXERCISE

This are samples of a exercise using color paper as base for your drawing.  The idea in this sketches is to use the paper as medium tone. As you can see in the drawings most of the reflections are in the same color as the paper.  You can later use white and black color pencil to create the highlights and dark areas.

Basic Exploded Views of your Concepts
This is a sample of the next assignment. You need to develop exploded views for each of your concepts. Even though you are not experts in materials and technology, I want you to have a smart guess of how to explode the drawing of your concepts.

This is another example of a exploded view. The idea is to show the parts that conform your concept.

Sketching Biommicry concepts for a pencil sharpener

This sketch is going to show you a sample of a biomimicry drawing using only 3 markers and a pen.
In this case I use the owl as an inspiration to create a concept for a pencil sharpener.

Having fun with the 12 second car exercise.
Lu Chen and Talia have very good speed but they can keep improving the shape of the car….  🙂 …..
Good job.

Storyboard sample

Also if you want you could use this line models as a base to develop your drawings

Using color paper to represent the concept

We can create pretty good sketches when we use a color paper, grey markers, color pencils and white pencil.  The idea on this exercise is to represent the volume of the object NOT to render the concept.  Rendering takes a lot more time and the final result should be more refine the this sample.

This short video shows the 12 Second car battles from our previous Sketch Aerobics workshop.
Remember that the purpose of the 12 second car is just to increase your line quality and speed.
(NOT to design a car)
See you next time…
Please send me comments and suggestions so we can keep improving the Sketch Aerobics
